Installation for the exhibition “Telefoonstraat twintig”(number twenty, Telephone Street), Tilburg (nl)
“Starting point is everyday reality and everyday-ness also characterises the material. Sometimes this eventually gives rise to a classic aesthetic work like the Pergola by Jeroen Doorenweerd in the courtyard. At first glance it is exactly what it says it is, a sort of roof over a patio, but at second glance you notice the interaction of the upright stands and cross-laths of the pergola with the horizontal and vertical architectural elements of the house: the window frames, the rain pipes, the iron struts in the wall, the eaves, the beams of the balcony, the planks in the entrance gate and the luxaflex blinds behind the windows. This only adds to the intensity of the construction. All the works of art in the house are temporary interventions but the Pergola seems to belong there and ought to be left intact as a relic of the exhibition.” (Robbert Roos reporting in Trouw)
