Lokaal 01, a presentation space for art and sound in Breda, closed temporarily in the summer of 2002, but wanted to continue to offer something to the neighborhood and its visitors. Doorenweerd was asked to make an inviting work for the front garden, and this piece of outdoor furniture was the result. Within a space measuring 10 x 10 m, people could lounge, talk and listen, eat, drink, and dance. The installation included comfortable benches for reading or for dozing in the sun. It also provided a platform for debate and performances, and a large picnic table for outdoor meals, Italian style.
“Under the trees in front of the building belonging to this platform for experimental art in Breda, Doorenweerd, using unprocessed wood, has had an installation built. There are very comfortable benches/reclining chairs, there is a platform and a sort of small stage with a balustrade. The guests invited to the opening clearly feel quite at home, lounging in the little summer square. Doorenweerd: “I live in the middle of Tilburg and when we chat to the neighbors we sit on the window sills. This is a sort of extended window sill.
